Exploring the World of Science
Conducted on November 26 , 2016
In the quest for something new and exciting, Elite Club Jeddah came up with the GUG With Science session held on the 26th of November at Mcdonalds Sharfiya. This session focused on carrying out a series of scientific experiments in a fun way that would enhance our kids’ interest in Science and its fascinating concepts.
Group 1 aged 3-6 years old carried out a color mixing experiment using tissue papers and color dyes, and another experiment using m&m’s and water. The colors blending into each other creating a whirlpool of shades and contrasts gave their little minds an idea about the concept of diffusion. Also, they practiced balance by working on the don’t-drop-the-water challenge whereby a glass was filled with water up to the brim and was turned upside down after placing a cardboard piece on top- and to the children’s surprise and delight, it did not spill!
Group 2 was formed of kids aged 7-10 years old, and these curious young minds carried out an aspirin+water+color dye+oil experiment to observe the formation of bubbles through water. Also, activities based on the concept of physical balance were carried out. Apart from this was a balloon blowing contest that was also thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The older kids were then taken on a surprise kitchen tour of the famous fast food chain, and later had a great time getting face painting done, and playing around with their favorite and familiar character Hamburglar. Happy meals, and jellies by Cake Affairs were feasted upon with excitement. And with much thought put into what give always kids would be enthralled by and which would also go by our theme, we gave them each a chickpeas germination project to keep an eye on and to water and take care of, and they are now anxiously waiting for their little plants to grow!
All in all, a session any kid would love to be a part of. And last but not the least, thanks to our support system and our volunteers- Huma, Aatira, Samreen and Maryam. And thanks to Samreen for being the event photographer
